Download the app from Apple's App Store or the Google Play Store. Once the app is installed on your phone or device you will need to register and create a get me there app account. Next you'll need to add a means of payment. The app currently accepts all Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Maestro and Visa Electron cards, ApplePay and Google Pay. Your payment information is stored securely and will never be used for any purposes other than processing payments for the purchases you've made.

Remember that you must have a valid ticket before you board the tram, attempting to buy a ticket when Customer Service Representatives board the vehicle may result in a standard fare being issued.

Any tickets or travelcards you purchase on the get me there app are activated automatically according to the day and time of purchase. If you buy a single, peak return, 7-day or 28-day stop-to-stop ticket, or a 1-day peak travelcard, it will start automatically at the time you purchase it. If you buy an off-peak return or a 1-day off peak travelcard it will start automatically at 9.30am on the day of purchase, or immediately if you purchase it after 9.30am.

A weekend travelcard is valid from 6pm on a Friday until the end of service* on Sunday. If you buy a weekend travelcard during the week and before 6pm on Friday, it will start automatically at 6pm on the Friday. If you buy one on a Saturday or Sunday it will start immediately but if you only plan on travelling on one day over the weekend then you'll get better value from a 1-day off peak travelcard.

All Metrolink tickets and travelcards are valid until the end of service* on the expiry date. On certain services, this may be after midnight, so please note that if, for instance, you buy a 1-day travelcard after midnight, it will expire at the end of service*

Buying a ticket before you board the tram is really important because you'll need to be able to display it on your phone if requested, in exactly the same way as you need to show a valid printed ticket. Although you'll need an active internet connection (either mobile data or Wi-Fi) to buy and download a ticket or travelcard using the get me there app, once you've purchased it and it is visible on your device, an internet connection is not required.

Your ticket or travelcard will display on your phone screen with an automatically generated word at the top of it, which changes every day. This is to prevent fraudulent use of the app and to make it easier for Metrolink staff to check.

If you are unable to display your ticket or travelcard for any reason, such as a broken screen or a dead battery, it's the same as if you'd lost your printed ticket - you'll be travelling without a visible valid ticket and will risk receiving a standard fare penalty of up to £100.

You will be able to use a new or existing get me there to buy Metrolink tickets and travelcards or bus and tram travelcards. Sign up for a get me there account at getmethere.com to buy tickets and travelcards online - or you can buy at TfGM Travelshops. You can't currently buy smart tickets at a Metrolink on-stop ticket machine (TVM) but we are working on this! We'll let you know as soon as this is available.

Once you have purchased a ticket or travelcard online this will be loaded on to your smart card the next time you 'touch in' when you start a Metrolink journey. You don't need to make a special trip to Metrolink or touch in specially to collect your tickets and travelcards, you simply touch in when you travel.

You can buy tickets and travelcards online for use from tomorrow or up to 7 days in advance. Tickets and travelcards bought from a TfGM Travelshop can be used immediately.

Your online account can be used for managing your cards, including ordering replacements and buying tickets and travelcards. If you register, your tickets and travelcards will be protected so that in the unfortunate event that you lose your card, we will replace any tickets and travelcards that have more than 7 days left to run.

You can buy the full range of adult tickets and travelcards online, simply create an account or log-in to your existing get me there account.

7-day and 28-day tickets and travelcards are also available from any TfGM Travelshop, where our staff can also issue you a card, and create an account for you.

You'll also soon be able to get tickets from our on-stop ticket machines (TVMs). Along with a range of tickets for igo card holders and concessionary customers this will be available in the next stages of get me there. We can't give a date for this at the moment but we hope to be able to update everyone soon.
